Skill 2:

BE CAREFUL OF OBJECT OF PREPOSITIONS

Pada skill 2 ini, kita harus berhati-hati dengan object preposisi yang kemungkinan menjebak kita dalam penentuan SUBJECT. Jadi, jika dalam suatu kata berada setelah preposisi (kata depan) seperti on, in at, of, by, behind, after, before, with, for dan lainnya. Maka itu merupakan bagian dari object preposisi dan BUKAN SUBJECT.

Example 1

With his friend ......... found the movie theater.

(A). has

(B). he

(C). later

(D). when

Pada contoh di atas sekali lagi dalam menjawab soal structure ingat pertama kali kita harus mencari subject dan verbnya. Pada example 1 terdapat verb (found) dan with his friend (his friend berada setelah preposisi with) merupakan object preposisi maka kalimat tersebut membutuhkan SUBJECT. Jawaban B adalah jawaban terbaik karena HE adalah subject. Sedangkan jawaban A, C, dan D tidak tepat karena bukan subject.

Object Preposition:

A preposition is followed by a noun that is called an object of the preposition if a word is an

object of preposition, it is not the subject

Example 2-10 (Tentukan apakah kalimat tersebut benar strukturnya atau tidak benar)

Example 2:

The interviews by radio broadcaster were carried live by the station.

Dalam hal ini kalimat lengkap dan penyusunannya benar, yaitu:

> The interview=subject

> by radio broadcaster=preposition

> were carried=verb

Example 3:

At the neighborhood flower shop, flowers in quantities of a dozen or a half dozen can be delivered for free.

Dalam hal ini kalimat lengkap dan penyusunannya benar, yaitu:

>At the neighbourhood flower shop, in quantities of a dozen or a half dozen=preposition

>flowers=subject

>can be delivered=verb

>for free=object

Example 4:

The progressive reading methods at this school are given credit for the improved test scores.

Dalam hal ini kalimat lengkap dan penyusunannya benar, yaitu:

>Progressive reading method=subject

>at this school=preposition

>are given=verb

>For the improved test score=object

Example 5:

For the last three years at various hospitals in the county has been practicing medicine.

Jawab:

Kalimat tersebut incorrect  karena kehilangan subject

 >For the last three years, at various hospitals, in the county= preposition

>has been=verb

Example 6:

In the last possible moment before take off took his seat in the airplane

Jawab:

Kalimat tersebut incorrect karena kehilangan subject

>in the last possible moment, before takeoff= preposition

> took=verb

Example 7:

In the past, a career in politics was not considered acceptable in some circles

Dalam hal ini kalimat lengkap dan penyusunannya benar, yaitu:

 >career = subject

>in the past, in politics=preposition

>was not considered= verb

Example 8:

At the building site the carpenters with the most experience were given the most intricate work.

Dalam hal ini kalimat lengkap dan penyusunannya benar, yaitu:

>carpenters = subject

>at the building site, with the most experience=preposition

>were given= verb

Example 9:

 For the fever and headache took two aspirin tablets.

Kalimat tersebut incorrect karena kehilangan subject

>For the fever and headache= preposition

> took=verb

Example 10:

 The report with complete documentation was delivered at the conference

Dalam hal ini kalimat lengkap dan penyusunannya benar, yaitu:

>report = subject

>with complete documentation, at the conference=preposition

>was delivered= verb
